Milbon DA-Link USA 2025 Pilot Event

On July 14th, the Milbon NYC Academy transformed into a creative arena for the first-ever DA-Link USA Pilot Event, bringing together top hairstylists for a day of artistry, innovation, and connection.

For decades, Milbon’s DA (Designers Ability) events have been a platform for honing the design skills essential to a successful hair career, with each year’s theme evolving alongside the beauty industry. This year, the concept of DA-Link took center stage, representing the many ways stylists connect: online and offline, with clients and colleagues, and with the shifting styles of the times.

The O2O Communication Era

In a world where a client often sees your work on Instagram before they meet you in person, today’s stylists are expected to bridge the digital and in-salon experience seamlessly. DA-Link was designed to strengthen that connection. Competitors were tasked with showcasing their Signature Style, a distinct, personal vision designed for social media impact and then adapting it for the salon chair, delivering a Personalized Style that enhances the individual client in front of them.

An Esteemed Judging Panel

Two hairstylists led the judging: Anh Co Tran and Baek Heung Kwon, both veteran judges of Milbon’s DA competitions worldwide. Their eye for technical excellence, trend awareness, and authentic creativity set a high bar for competitors.

The Competition

The event unfolded in two parts:

1. Signature Style for Social Media – Stylists presented a look that reflected their unique artistry and visual storytelling.
2. Personalization for In-Salon Guests – That same style was then tailored to a live model, showcasing technical skill, adaptability, and high-level execution in hair, makeup, and overall presentation.

Celebrating the Winners

When the final looks were revealed, three stylists received awards:

• Anh Co Tran Choice Award – Iulia Dima (Hairstory by Julia) wowed with a blonde, soft, yet edgy bob cut.
• Baek Heung Kwon Choice Award – Cyrus Miller created a beautiful golden blonde Lived-In Look and styled with airy-texture.
• Audience Award & Grand Prix Winner – Lucas Tamaio captured both the crowd’s enthusiasm and the top honor with his masterful execution.

The DA-Link USA Pilot Event wasn’t just about building a community of stylists who can navigate the evolving beauty landscape with confidence. It reminded everyone that great hair isn’t just about technique, it’s about connection: to your vision, your client, and the world around you. As the first U.S. edition of DA-Link, the event set the tone for what’s possible when artistry and connection meet. DA will return for a whole new competition next Fall of 2026.
