Alysa Liu for Louis Vuitton: Hair Look Breakdown

Louis Vuitton has officially announced Alysa Liu as their newest House Ambassador.
For the announcement’s campaign shoot, Anh Co Tran created two distinct hairstyles that balanced softness, structure, and movement.

Working closely alongside the styling team, Anh designed each look to complement Alysa’s fashion while highlighting one of her most defining features: her signature halo color. From soft lived-in waves to a sculptural knotted updo, here’s how Anh created both looks for Alysa’s official Louis Vuitton ambassador announcement.

Look 1: Soft Waves

Alysa wore structured denim for her first look. Anh felt that wearing her hair down with soft movement would complement the overall silhouette while allowing her signature halo color to remain the focal point.

Step 1. Prep

Starting on damp hair, Anh first applied two palmfuls of Milbon&’s Monochromatic Froth Blowout Foam from roots to ends to create body, smoothness, and a flexible hold.

He then layered two pumps of Milbon’s Smooth Luminous Bodifying Oil through her mid-lengths to ends to enhance softness and shine.

With the hair prepped, Anh then blow dried her hair smooth to establish the foundation for the style.

Step 2. Creating the Waves

To build texture while still allowing Alysa’s halo color to be the star, Anh created a softer variation of his signature Combo Waves: layering Nu Wave and Lived-In Wave techniques. The softer wave pattern and natural movement enhanced the dimension of Alysa’s color rather than disrupting it.

Anh then smoothed Alysa’s bangs to maintain a polished shape and preserve softness.

Step 3. Finishing the Look

To tame flyaways and add extra moisture to the hair, Anh applied Milbon&’s Monochromatic Velvet Texturizing Cream through the mid-lengths and ends.

Because the shoot incorporated wind effects, Anh made sure to layer Milbon’s Flex Memory Hairspray 7 throughout the hair for a flexible hold that still allowed for natural movement during the shoot.

For a stronger hold for Alysa’s bangs, he misted the roots with Milbon’s Firm Hold Shielding Hairspray 10 for additional control and longevity.

The final look gave Alysa’s signature hair a polished, lived-in finish while allowing the dimension of her halo color to remain the focus.

Look 2: Knotted Updo

For Alysa’s second look, Anh transformed her first hairstyle into a twisted updo inspired by the textured double-knot look he created for her Vanity Fair Oscars After Party appearance.

For this version, however, Anh positioned the knot higher on the head to complement the high neckline of her blouse and preserve the clean shape of the collar details.

Step 1. Building Texture

Continuing directly from the first hairstyle, Anh first layered Milbon’s Weightless Dry Texture Spray 4 throughout the hair to create additional grit and airy texture.

He then applied Milbon&’s Monochromatic Puff Finishing Paste through the roots and ends to enhance texture and dimension.

Step 2. Creating the Knots

Anh first left out the front sections around her ears to preserve Alysa’s signature face-framing details and bangs. He then gathered the remaining hair toward the back and divided it down the center toward the nape of the neck.

To build the updo, Anh twisted the two sections together into a knot and pinned it into place, followed by a second knot layered on top for additional structure.

Rather than fully tucking away the ends, Anh intentionally left pieces out throughout the knots to create a softer, more undone texture. The result was a textured knot that still felt effortless and lived-in.

Step 3. Finishing the Look

To maintain flexible hold throughout the shoot, Anh sealed her style with Milbon’s Flex Memory Hairspray 7 so the hair could continue to move naturally while holding its style.

He then detailed Alysa’s bangs at the roots with a mist of Milbon’s Firm Hold Shielding Hairspray 10 to help keep her face-framing pieces secure throughout the shoot’s wind effect.

Pro Tip: Anh especially loves using the Firm Hold Shielding Hairspray 10 when styling for windy environments or outdoor shoots. With a light mist focused on the roots, it is particularly great for keeping bangs in place and their shape intact!
