Alysa Liu x British Vogue Magazine
For Alysa Liu’s British Vogue cover, she embraced a cool, Lived In grunge aesthetic. To fit the vision, Anh Co Tran styled her hair with loose, piecey waves and textured braids. Here’s how he created her look:
The Foundation
Anh began by applying three palmfuls of Monochromatic Froth Blowout Foam to her damp hair. He followed with roughly three pea-sized amounts of Monochromatic Velvet Texturizing Cream all over. He then diffused the hair to build natural texture and a solid foundation.
Loose Waves
Once the hair was dry, Anh created loose Nu Waves throughout to establish a soft, Lived In foundation for the style.
Adding Braids
Next, Anh randomly sectioned Alysa’s hair and added a mix of French and Dutch braids throughout. He worked through each braid to loosen and texturize it, creating an unpolished, imperfect finish.
To build even more piecey texture, Anh misted her hair with Milbon’s Weightless Dry Texture Spray 4. He then applied another three pea-sized amounts of Velvet Texturizing Cream, working it through the lengths to add separation and definition.
The Finishing Details
To make the braids stand out, Anh applied Milbon’s Matte Texturizing Paste 8 directly to the braided sections, giving them more definition and dimension.
On her bangs, Anh added a small amount of Velvet Texturizing Cream to create additional separation and piecey texture around the front pieces.
He finished her style with Milbon’s Flex Memory Hairspray 7 for shape and hold.
Alysa’s Final Look
The final result was a grungy, Lived In finish with loose waves, imperfect braids, and plenty of texture throughout. The relaxed style perfectly complemented her mix of vintage pieces and Nike for British Vogue.
