Anh’s ’90s Blowout Technique

Anh has introduced a way to bring back the classic ’90s style with a modern twist, all through a dry cut approach and a curling iron.

Here’s how you can achieve this iconic look step by step:

1. Divide and Conquer:

Begin by taking a radial section from ear to ear, which parts the hair across to create separate front and back sections.

2. Working from the Back:

Starting with the back section, take 1.5″ horizontal subsections of hair. Using a 1.25″ AnhxSultra Pro Marcel Iron, place it horizontally on the midshaft of the hair, leaving the ends out. Gently feed the hair into the iron, working your way up to the roots. Once the hair reaches the desired texture, release it and tuck the ends in slightly for a subtle bend. Repeat this process until you finish the back section before moving on to the front.

3. Front Section Technique:

Moving to the front sections, take a bottom horizontal subsection and apply the same technique used for the back. For the next 1.5″ subsection, curl diagonally away from the face, ensuring the ends are left out. Tuck the ends in once the desired texture is achieved. Take another subsection and finish off with another diagonal curl away from the face. Repeat the same on the other side for symmetry. Note that there are three subsections on each side of the front.

4. The Final Touch:

Complete the look by applying a stronghold hairspray, such as Milbon’s Strong Hold Hairspray 7, for a soft, flexible hold. For a more lived-in look, run your hands through the hair to break up the curls slightly.

Pro Tips:

Anh Co Tran’s signature twist to this technique lies in leaving the ends out. This small adjustment adds a modern touch to the classic ’90s blowout look, giving it a finish more reminiscent of a professionally styled blowout rather than one done with a traditional curling iron.
