How to Protect Your Hair from Heat Damage

Heat styling tools such as hair straighteners, curling irons, and blow dryers have become essential in achieving some of out favorite looks. However, excessive heat can damage your hair, leaving it dry, brittle, and prone to breakage.

Thankfully, there are ways to protect your hair from heat damage and keep it looking healthy and shiny. Here are some of Anh’s best tips for protecting your hair from heat damage:

1. Use a heat protectant spray:

Before using any heat styling tools, it is important to apply a heat protectant to your hair. Anh recommends Milbon’s Heat Protective Mist, this can cause a barrier between your hair and the heat, reducing the damage caused by high temperatures. Simply spray the product evenly throughout your hair, focusing on the ends where damage is most likely to occur.

2. Lower the heat setting:

Many heat styling tools come with adjustable temperature settings. It is important to use the lowest heat setting possible to achieve your desired style. High temperatures can cause significant damage to your hair, so it is best to start with a lower setting and gradually increase if necessary.

3. Limit heat exposure:

Try to limit the amount of heat styling you do on your hair. Instead of using heat tools every day, try alternative styling methods such as air-drying, braiding your hair, or heatless curlers. This will give your hair a break from the damaging effects of heat and prevent further damage.

4. Air-dry when possible:

Whenever possible, allow your hair to air-dry instead of using a blow dryer. Air-drying is a gentler method of drying your hair and can help prevent heat damage. If you do need to use a blow dryer, use a lower heat setting and keep the dryer at least 6 inches away from your hair.

Remember to always use a heat protectant spray, lower the heat setting on your styling tools, limit heat exposure, and air-dry when possible. Your hair will thank you for it!
