Summer Hair Care Do’s and Don’ts

Sunshine, beach days, and pool time are some of the best parts of summer, but your hair might not feel the same way. Between UV rays, chlorine, and product buildup, summer can seriously damage your strands. Luckily, celebrity hairstylist Anh Co Tran shares some of the key do’s and don’ts to keep your hair healthy, hydrated, and less damaged.

DO: Protect Your Hair from the Sun

Sun exposure doesn’t just affect your skin, it can dry out your hair and weaken strands. Use a heat protectant even if you’re air-drying. Anh recommends Milbon’s Brilliant Shine Spray and Brilliant Polishing Oil which protects your hair from UV rays, heat, and humidity. Best of all, it leaves your hair looking shiny and beautiful.

DON’T: Skip UV Protection

If you’re lounging by the pool or walking around in direct sun, your hair is still at risk for damage. Make sure your scalp gets some SPF as well in order to avoid sun damage.

DO: Wash Your Hair After Swimming

Chlorine and saltwater can leave your hair brittle and dull. Anh recommends washing your hair right after swimming to rinse out chemicals or minerals and protect against dryness and breakage. Opt for moisturizing shampoos and treatments like Indulging Hydration from Milbon’s Gold Line or Milbon’s Reawaken Collection.

DON’T: Let Chlorine or Salt Sit in Your Hair

The longer it lingers, the more damage it can do, especially if you have color-treated or textured hair.

DO: Prioritize Scalp Health

Sweat, sunscreen, and buildup can clog follicles and lead to irritation. Anh recommends a gentle, purifying shampoo like Milbon’s Scalp Purifying Gel Shampoo or the Enhancing Vivacity Shampoo, which cleans without stripping essential oils.

DON’T: Overwash or Use Harsh Shampoos

You want to cleanse your scalp, not dry it out. Milbon products are great because they purify your hair without drying it out like clarifying shampoos.

Your summer hair care routine doesn’t have to be complicated. A few mindful switches, to protect, cleanse, and hydrate your hair can make all the difference. Great hair in the summer is all about smart choices and consistent care.
