How to Use Texturizing Spray Like a Professional Stylist

Of all the products worthy of landing a spot on your bathroom counter, none quite compares to the versatility of texturizing sprays. This professional-loved product does a little bit of everything.

If you’re curious about texturizing sprays or looking for new ways to use your go-to product, you’re in luck. We asked Anh Co Tran, L’Oréal Professionnel brand ambassador and king of the “lived-in texture” to give us insider tips about using texturizing products.

According to Tran, texturizing spray often solves a very specific problem: What’s a girl to do with hair that’s too clean?

If you’re deeply invested in the bouncy half ponytails and top knots that rule social media, this is a product you’ll want to try. Coveted second day texture doesn’t always come naturally.

Above all else, Tran recommends texturizing spray to his clients for one key reason: It’s easy to use! It’s difficult to go wrong with a product like L’Oréal Professionnel’s Tecni.Art Wild Stylers Next Day Hair Texturizing Spray to hold disheveled, tousled locks.

For dry styling, use spritzes of Next Day Hair at your roots to boost movement and body. If you’d really like to lock in the style, Tran advises putting the formula to work as a finishing step after you’re all done rearranging bobby pins.

It’s important to note that texturizing sprays can also work wonders on hair that’s fresh from the shower.

“When the hair is damp, you can spray [texturizing product] on, braid, and let it air dry for a textured, messy look,” Tran explains.

Once you’ve found a texturizing formula you like, we recommend treating it kind of like a favorite lipstick. Keep it near your sink in case of emergencies. If your hair is looking limp or your ponytail didn’t quite turn out like the video tutorial you watched, give it a spritz to add some look. This one’s a bad hair day buster.

Once you’re using texturizing spray regularly, there’s a good chance you’ll want to dump everything else on your vanity into the garbage. Don’t do that quite yet, because Tran says there are very clear limitations on what this formula can do.

“[Texturizing spray] cannot replace a polishing cream. It won’t do anything but add texture and give more movement and body.”

In other words, put texturizing spray to work as part of your arsenal of products. Your hair will thank you.
