Anh & Mika Discuss: Styling with Monochromatic
The Monochromatic Collection makes styling easy for clients at home and stylists behind the chair. Co-developed by Anh Co Tran and Milbon&, this collection of multipurpose products was designed to take the guesswork out of styling.
To highlight the collection, Anh invited hairstylist Mika (@mikameoki) into the salon. As he created two different hairstyles on her – Lived In Waves and Natural Waves – they discussed the products, techniques, and what surprised her most about using Monochromatic.
Look 1: Lived In Waves
This was Mika’s first look of the day. Anh began with his signature Lived In Waves, layering Monochromatic products to create effortless movement, body, and texture.
The Styling Breakdown
- Apply two palmfuls of Froth Blowout Foam evenly through damp hair.
- Layer two pea-sized amounts of Velvet Texturizing Cream throughout the hair.
- Blow-dry smooth and then create Lived In Waves.
- Massage two pea-sized amounts of Puff Finishing Paste from roots to ends, then brush through.
- Apply one additional pea-sized amount of Velvet to define the ends and texture.
- Finish with a mist of Weightless Dry Texture Spray 4.
Mika’s Take
Mika found it interesting to watch Anh’s techniques, especially that he used the Velvet before the blow-dry to smooth her hair with. The lightweight formula helped maintain hydration throughout the styling. Because she often struggles with dryness and frizz, she was especially impressed by how Froth and Velvet worked together to prep her hair and create a smooth finish.
Mika also loved how airy her hair felt after layering multiple products. Puff gave her effortless lift and body without ever feeling heavy.

Look 2: Natural Waves
For Mika’s second look, Anh enhanced her natural waves. He layered Velvet first for hydration before sealing the product in with Froth Blowout Foam. After diffusing, he finished with Puff at the roots to create soft lift and body.
The Styling Breakdown
- Apply Velvet Texturizing Cream throughout damp hair for hydration.
- Layer Froth Blowout Foam all over to seal it in.
- Diffuse hair upside down for added lift and volume. A great method for fine hair types!
- Finish with Puff Finishing Paste wherever extra body is needed.
Mika’s Take
Mika normally likes to wear her hair naturally, so she appreciated how easily Monochromatic fit into her existing routine. Her ideal routine is simple to enhance her natural texture: wash, apply product, and go. And after using Monochromatic, Mika thought her hair looked much curlier and more defined, without weighing her curls down.
Mika also likes the fact that Froth provides heat protection up to 450°F. Because she regularly diffuses her natural curls with heat, she appreciated having one less prep product to think about.

Key Takeaways
Whether styling waves or embracing natural texture, Mika found that Monochromatic streamlines her styling routine while delivering flexible, buildable results. Her biggest takeaways: Puff for effortless lift and airy volume, Velvet for lightweight hydration, and Froth for smoothing and heat protection.
Coming Up: Anh styles hairstylist Nina in two completely different ways and hears her thoughts on using Monochromatic behind the chair.
