Modern Interpretation of Tradition: The Karawa Mage
For the first time in three years, Anh had the opportunity to organize and execute a mesmerizing commercial and editorial shoot, capturing the essence of Milbon’s birthplace.
Join us as we embark on a journey and explore four distinct looks inspired by Anh’s remarkable expedition to Nakagawa in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan that showcase Anh’s modern interpretation of breaking boundaries while also harnessing the traditional essence of Japan.
Continue below to learn more about Anh’s steps to create the final look!
This specific look was inspired by a traditional Japanese Karawa-Mage. Anh wanted to reimagine this “looped” ponytail through a modern lens!
STEP 1
Starting off Anh sprayed a bit of Milbon’s Weightless Replenishing Mist on damp hair.
STEP 2
Then, to achieve the ultimate “wet” look Anh applied a generous amount of Milbon’s Wet Shine Gel Cream 8 and Molding Wax 7 to the ponytail.
STEP 3
After her hair became saturated with the product, Anh took the ponytail, made a loop, and then gathered the hair back into the main ponytail.
STEP 4
Once the loop was created, Anh took the ends of the ponytail and made sure to spread the hair on top of the head toward the face.
STEP 5
Now with his focus on the front section with the most hair, Anh carefully spread the hair onto the face and secured it to the ponytail.
STEP 6
Then he secured the look with hairpins and then dried it with a blow dryer so that it stays in place.
STEP 7
To finish the look off, he sprayed the hair with Milbon’s Strong Hold Hairspray 7 for a long-lasting, lightweight hold.
