Modern Interpretation of Tradition: The Tamamusubi

For the first time in three years, Anh had the opportunity to organize and execute a mesmerizing commercial and editorial shoot, capturing the essence of Milbon’s birthplace.

Join us as we embark on a journey and explore four distinct looks inspired by Anh’s remarkable expedition to Nakagawa in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan that showcase Anh’s modern interpretation of breaking boundaries while also harnessing the traditional essence of Japan.

Continue below to learn more about Anh’s steps to create the second look!

This specific look was inspired by a traditional Japanese Tamamusubi. He wanted to bring a contemporary twist to this hairstyle that made it more modern as well as more youthful.

STEP 1

Starting off with damp hair, Anh applied a bit of Milbon’s Humidity Blocking Oil on her ends for added moisture and to eliminate frizz.

STEP 2

Next, he sprayed the hair with a bit of Milbon’s Texturizing Sea Mist 3 from midshaft to ends for added texture.

STEP 3

Following the radial section, he created a middle part.

STEP 4

Then, Anh created a radial section part then split the hair from ear to ear to separate the front and the back.

STEP 5

With the hair now being split into 4 parts, he took the upper right quadrant and loosely rolled the hair into a curl.

STEP 6

After, he secured the curl with bobby pins from the inside.

STEP 7

Then, Anh gently gathered the remaining three quadrants, fashioning them into a loose ponytail, and proceeded to softly create a lived-in curl in one direction using a 1.5-inch Pro Marcel Iron

STEP 8

To finish the look off, he sprayed the hair with Milbon’s Strong Hold Hairspray 7 for a long-lasting, lightweight hold.

Et Voila!
